NC exit polls reveal Obama’s core demographic
My home state reared some interesting results for the Obama camp yesterday. I already knew that black voters tend to be overwhelmingly Pro-Bama, while working class whites lean towards Clinton, but I found the specific generation by generation results to be very intriguing. Among black voters, the youth (aged 18-29) voted overwhelmingly in Obama’s favor by a margin of 96%. The Hip-Hop generation was followed by Civil Rights generation (aged 45-59) at 91%, then the elders (aged 60+) at 90%. The Black demographic least supportive of Obama were those aged 30-44, rolling in at a lackluster 86%. You could draw all types of interesting conclusions based on these numbers. The slope among white voters was a little more linear. Obama beat Clinton out for the young white vote (aged 18-29) but lost by a higher and higher margin, the older you get. He lost the soccer mom’s (aged 30-44) by 7%, the Baby Boomers (aged 45-59) by 31% and the senior citizens (aged 60-older) by 40%. Looks like older white North Carolinians aren’t ready for a Black president quite yet. These numbers came from exit polls so, they need to be taken with a grain of salt. Nonetheless, I think these numbers are an interesting glimpse into the minds and priorities of American voters from various generations.
The Bigger Picture:
With an outstanding win in North Carolina and a slim loss in Indiana, Barak Obama is just where he wants to be. He is 156 total delegates ahead of Hillary Clinton (1,842 to 1,686). However, neither candidate is expected to reach 2,025 delegates - the number needed to guarantee nomination. So, if this election comes down to superdelegates, what do you think the reaction will be if Obama wins the popular vote but is not granted nomination by the superdelegates at the Democratic National Convention?

I am really looking forward to the Democratic convention. With any luck, nothing will be settled until after 4 or 5 ballots. The images of the conventions prior to 1964 are fun to view. There is NO drama in recent conventions. They are just free advertising for the previously anointed candidate.
As to the demographics among the white voters in NC. I am sure some of the votes for Clinton among the older voters were due to residual racism but a large part of it is probably due to Mr Obamas’ relative youth. I know that my momma does not think anyone under 60 has a lick of sense.

I forgot to add to the above post that the overwhelming support for Mr Obama among black voters is clearly racist. Even more racist than any group of whites in any state.
Mr Obama now has more superdelegates than Ms Clinton.
