Racist or not? The RNC’s anti- Harold Ford Jr. Ad
I’m sure some of you have heard about this, but for those that haven’t, check out the following political ad, paid for by the Republican National Committee:
The NAACP is calling the RNC out for playing to negative stereotypes of blacks in the ad, and I agree with their general assessment. Looks like the Southern Strategy is still alive and well, despite RNC chairman Ken Mehlman’s pathetic protestations to the contrary.
Update: Bowing to external pressure, the RNC has “retired” this ad and replaced it with (from MSNBC):
. . . a new spot called “Shaky,” which started airing Sunday in Knoxville but has expanded statewide. It alleges that Ford “took cash from Hollywood’s top X-rated porn moguls” and that he “wants to give the abortion pill to our schoolchildren.”
So, no racism per se, just good old-fashioned right-wing slime. I suppose this is progress, of a sort anyway.
